We at Fraunhofer ITEM can assist with targeted metabolomics using LC-MS-based but also NMR-based methods in various projects and scientific areas. Our state-of-the-art LC-MS/MS platform is equipped for high-throughput quantitative metabolome analysis, utilizing validated kit-based approaches that ensure robustness and reproducibility. This technology allows us to simultaneously measure more than 1,800 metabolites from diverse biochemical pathways, providing deep insights into metabolic alterations in response to chemical exposure, drug treatment, or disease progression. The platform's efficiency enables us to process large sample cohorts – over 600 samples within two weeks – while requiring only minimal sample volumes, making it particularly valuable for precious clinical and preclinical study materials. Complementing our mass spectrometry capabilities, we operate advanced NMR spectroscopy systems that offer unique advantages for metabolomics research. NMR technology is intrinsically quantitative and non-destructive, allowing for comprehensive metabolite profiling of several hundred compounds while preserving samples for potential follow-up analyses. We employ standardized workflows from leading providers, ensuring that our analytical procedures meet the highest standards of quality and reproducibility. This dual-platform approach – combining the sensitivity and selectivity of LC-MS/MS with the robustness and non-destructive nature of NMR – provides our clients with flexible, fit-for-purpose solutions tailored to their specific project requirements. Our methods are applicable across a wide range of biological matrices including plasma, serum, and tissue extracts from various species, and we operate under both non-GLP and GLP conditions to meet diverse regulatory and research needs. All our data processing follows FAIR principles, ensuring that results are delivered in accessible formats ready for bioinformatic evaluation and interpretation.
