Research
Energie-Forschungszentrum NiedersachsenThe Energy Research Centre Lower Saxony in Goslar, EFZN for short, is a scientific institution of the TU Clausthal in cooperation with the universities of Braunschweig, Göttingen, Hannover and Oldenburg. The focus is on questions relating to the entire energy generation and utilisation chain, from the source of the raw material to disposal. Some 80 researchers from the natural sciences, engineering, law, social sciences and economics work together under one roof. This makes interdisciplinary energy research possible. According to the statutes of the EFZN, the cooperation partners of the research association agree that the EFZN should be further developed into a joint institution of the participating universities in the medium term.

In Lower Saxony, energy research is carried out at many institutions in order to reduce dependence on finite fossil fuels and to develop solutions that lead to sustainable energy use. The questions of energy generation and refinement or the disposal of waste products from energy generation are becoming increasingly comprehensive and complex. They can only be solved by the cooperation of different scientific disciplines. To date, there has been no focus that takes the entire energy chain into account and takes interdependencies into account across disciplines when analysing and solving problems. This gap is to be closed by the EFZN, which is designed to be permanent.
