Only if the continuously increasing knowledge of materials science is made available to the user directly and at short notice, is it possible to use our ever scarcer resources optimally and economically. In particular, the dialogue between user and developer is necessary to ensure a smooth transfer of knowledge. For materials technology, this also means that all stages of the value-added chain, from manufacture, processing and shaping through to proof of properties, must be taken into account through adapted test procedures and the use of quality assurance systems, and must be regarded as an object of research during the research and development process right up to the component or complete product.
As one of three research centres at Clausthal University of Technology, it pools the expertise of its scientists from various disciplines in the field of materials technology. This creates the conditions for working on challenging, interdisciplinary projects in joint working groups. The membership of further scientists from the Universities of Braunschweig and Hanover complements the circle of people involved and thus creates the prerequisite for a meaningful expansion of the German research landscape in the field of materials.
