Digital Thought: "For everyone who is up for it" – Winning new IT specialists through low-threshold training

In this episode of Digital Gedacht, the podcast of the Niedersachsen.next digital agency, we dedicate ourselves to the topic of recruiting skilled workers, especially for tech professions. To this end, we speak with Max Reinhardt from the 42 Wolfsburg programming school.

In this episode of Digital Gedacht, the podcast of the Niedersachsen.next digital agency, we dedicate ourselves to the topic of recruiting skilled workers, especially for tech professions. Henrike Lüssenhop speaks with Max Reinhardt, Head of Marketing & PR at the 42 Wolfsburg programming school. The school has set itself the goal of making technical training accessible to everyone. What is necessary for this, what barriers are overcome in the process, and how companies can win over the next generation of innovators – these are the topics they discuss in this episode.

The 42 Wolfsburg programming school has set itself the task of breaking down the known boundaries of software training. The university is open to everyone aged 18 and over, regardless of their educational background. Anyone who is “up for it” can apply, says Reinhardt.

We at Niedersachsen.next are also deeply involved in the topic of recruiting skilled workers. In cooperation with the Lower Saxony state government, we are working on cooperation agreements with international partners. These agreements are then to be followed by concrete individual projects that are conceptualized and initiated with companies and universities in Lower Saxony as well as the partner countries. The fact that missing degrees or language skills do not pose any obstacles is an important prerequisite for low-threshold access to training and for recruiting new skilled workers. Reinhardt explains in the interview how 42 Wolfsburg approaches this topic.

In the conversation, it becomes clear what the training of “software engineering for everyone” looks like, how it is taught through so-called “peer learning,” and what makes it different from other educational institutions. “When it comes to community life, a lot of freedom is given here. Furthermore, the basic principle of respect runs through our entire course of study,” says Reinhardt.

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is also a topic. What will future curricula look like if AI can write software? Similar to the entire training concept of 42 Wolfsburg, Reinhardt advocates for being courageous when it comes to educational content, because: “Especially in software engineering, you have to make mistakes in order to learn from them. That will also happen to you later in your professional life.”
