IBT PRE-SEED

The IBT PRE-SEED program provides comprehensive, high-level support and funding for Lower Saxony’s most promising biomedical research projects, helping them navigate the crucial transition from academia to entrepreneurship. Selected high-potential projects receive tailored funding of up to €1,500,000, specifically structured to achieve defined de-risking milestones and lay the groundwork for a successful start-up.

Projects are chosen by an independent Portfolio Advisory Board, ensuring the highest quality standards by leveraging combined expertise across academia, start-ups, regulatory affairs, and industry. Beyond financial backing, the selected teams benefit from dedicated professional mentorship and targeted networking within the IBT ecosystem.

Who can apply?

The main applicant must be employed by an academic institution based in Lower Saxony. Applications from individuals working at institutions outside Lower Saxony are excluded. The project proposal must be officially approved by the responsible body of the applying institution – such as the Transfer Office, the Innovation Department, or a comparable authority. An application without this internal approval will not be considered. There must be a genuine need for IBT funding. If other funding sources are readily available, the need for this funding is eliminated – the application would then not be eligible for funding. The relevant patents must be or will be exclusively licensed to the planned spin-off. Non-exclusive or other types of licensing exclude funding. The project must not have already been spun off and registered as an independent company. The funding is therefore aimed at projects that are still in the pre-company formation stage.
