IBT EXPLORE

IBT EXPLORE supports early-stage biomedical projects using a modular approach and providing up to €150,000 in funding to help them progress towards PRE-SEED funding.

Promising early-stage projects often carry risk profiles that prevent immediate qualification for PRE-SEED funding of up to €1.5 million over two years. To bridge this gap, the modular EXPLORE program was developed as part of the IBT INCUBATOR. In the value chain, it is strategically positioned before PRE-SEED and aims to support projects in achieving concrete de-risking milestones on the way to PRE-SEED funding eligibility or other funding. IBT EXPLORE offers a rolling application process throughout the year.

Who can apply?

The project must fit in the framework of the IBT’s strategy and scope (e.g. transfer project, spin-off/start-up planned, project is at the targeted project level range) The main applicant must be employed by an academic institution based in Lower Saxony. Applications from individuals working at institutions outside Lower Saxony are excluded. The project proposal must be officially approved by the responsible body of the applying institution – such as the Transfer Office, the Innovation Department, or a comparable authority. An application without this internal approval will not be considered. There must be a genuine need for IBT funding. If other funding sources are readily available, the need for this funding is eliminated – the application would then not be eligible for funding. The relevant patents must be or will be exclusively licensed to the planned spin-off. Non-exclusive or other types of licensing exclude funding. The project must not have already been spun off and registered as an independent company. The funding is therefore aimed at projects that are still in the pre-company formation stage.
