Future Lab Agriculture

Harvesting added value through networking Information technology is already an indispensable part of modern machinery and processes in the agricultural and food industry today. The digitalization of agriculture, understood as comprehensive networking and integration of machinery, processes, and actors in the agricultural value chain, is progressing. Existing structures, application routines, and business models, as well as their economic, social, and geographical environment, will change massively. Networking significantly strengthens the information potential of producers and consumers in the value chain. At the same time, it allows the increased demand for information and transparency from society and politics to be met. This places higher demands on data permeability and transparency; however, in a market environment, transparency must be selective to be acceptable. Actors must retain their data sovereignty and be able to disclose information in a target group-specific manner. Central aspects of the Future Lab Agriculture are questions of data management and data interpretation, automation and autonomy in agricultural technology, as well as the effects of digitalization on the working environment, training content, and the legal framework in the agricultural and food industry. Furthermore, the contribution of digitalization to the sustainability of agricultural processes will be analyzed.
