Life Science Factory opens its doors to startups

Clear the way for Göttingen's new life science startup platform: on January 19, 2022, the non-profit Life Science Factory initiated by the life science group Sartorius opened its doors in the Sartorius Quarter between Weender Landstrasse and Annastrasse. The Life Science Factory supports scientists and young companies willing to start up their own businesses as they take their first steps outside of academic institutions. On 3,300 square meters on four floors, there are state-of-the-art and fully equipped laboratories, a workshop for prototype development as well as office and event rooms. In addition, founders benefit from a comprehensive consulting program.

"In addition to access to start-up and growth capital, life science founders primarily lack suitable spaces, laboratories and an efficient network. The  Life Science Factory , which is unique in Europe to date, offers just that. Flexible and openly designed laboratory, office and event spaces are a good breeding ground for startups to try out new things and share contacts and experiences with like-minded and experienced players. The Life Science Factory is another step toward establishing Göttingen as an attractive startup location for life science beyond its scientific strength," said Joachim Kreuzburg, CEO of Sartorius.

In the Life Science Factory, startups can launch their projects within 48 hours. In terms of both size and equipment, the labs are highly flexible and modular, adaptable to the respective needs of the tenants, and can also grow with the startup if more space is needed. In addition, there are areas on the laboratory levels that can be shared by several tenants, such as equipment rooms for centrifuges, bioreactors or for cell cultivation. In addition, the young companies benefit, among other things, from the fact that they do not have to worry about building or safety regulations.

"Anyone walking through the Life Science Factory will see that there is plenty of room for development teams, innovation and collaboration. Our tenants can access everything they need to make their businesses successful, from lab benches to complete workshops. We are pleased to be able to play a part in new life science success stories," says Sven Wagner, one of the two managing directors of the Life Science Factory.
