Stroke: Digital Twin

Stroke is the second leading cause of death worldwide and the most common cause of lifelong physical disability. Our StroQ software targets healthcare facilities involved in the prevention and treatment of stroke patients. These facilities treat approximately 270,000 stroke patients annually in Germany alone. Over 80 million stroke patients are registered worldwide. Worldwide, over 13.7 million strokes and 5.5 million stroke-related deaths are recorded annually. In Germany alone, stroke recently caused total annual costs of €18 billion. In the EU, the figure is over €60 billion, and in the USA, over $46 billion . According to a study by the University of Oxford, costs are expected to rise by 44% by 2040.

In line with the major trend in medicine toward patient-specific therapy, and given the complexity and multifactorial influencing factors that determine cerebral perfusion, our innovation offers a significant, clinically highly relevant approach to improving the diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular diseases. Using our proprietary "StroQ" software, we generate a digital twin of the cerebral arteries and can simulate any biomechanical process within the cerebral arteries on a patient-specific basis. This approach is based on imaging data generated by MRA or CTA in routine clinical practice, as well as individual clinical data such as blood pressure. This precise and patient-specific simulation of cerebral perfusion, with the option of modifying a wide variety of parameters, enables individual therapy goals (e.g., the patient's target blood pressure) and treatment decisions (e.g., conservative vs. surgical treatment of vascular stenosis), as well as individualized risk assessments within the framework of personalized medical care for neurovascular patients.
