IP Scan

The IP-Scan offers expert advice on the development of your intellectual property strategy, which is carried out by experts or specialists together with you. In a first step, your company will fill out a short questionnaire, which will be analyzed in a second step. As part of the analysis, a personal meeting is also held with the aim of developing an intellectual property strategy that is suitable for your company. Finally, in a third step, a report with recommendations for action is prepared for you, which undergoes a quality check at the German Patent and Trademark Office. The costs for carrying out the IP scan are reimbursed at 90% for SMEs. Important: An application for funding must be submitted in advance. Further information on the IP scan, the procedure and the thematic content can be found on the official EUIPO website: https://euipo.europa.eu/ohimportal/de/online-services/ipscan.

Which industries are advised?

This service is offered in the participating EU member states either by the national IP office or by an authorized external partner. In Lower Saxony, only experts from the Lower Saxony Patent Information Center can offer the IP Scan. 90% of the cost of the IP Scan is reimbursed through the SME Fund grant. The SME Fund is a financial assistance program that helps small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the European Union (EU) with the cost of registering intellectual property rights. SMEs performing an IP Scan can be reimbursed 90% of the cost of this service, by first applying for a grant from the EUIPO SME Fund.

The IP scan costs €1,500, of which 90% will be reimbursed (if applied for in advance). This leaves a cost of €150, which is a net amount.

The grant application process is online and takes approximately 20-30 minutes. Normally, the grant is awarded within two weeks. Once the grant has been awarded, the IP scan can be ordered.
